Brian Head Welch (formerly of Korn) at the local bookstore!
Brian Head Welch arrived a half hour late to meet fans for a signing at Borders on Hollywood and Vine on September 11, 2008. I learned of his scheduled meeting whenI bumped into his fans, hopefully lined up next to the Calendars -while stopping at Borders on my daily 2-mile run through Hollywood. I decided to stick around and hear what he had to say. He casually held the guard rail on a small stairway and greeted the fans lined up to meet him. Maybe 3 dozen had been waiting, holding guitar parts, books and other things they hoped he’d sign. Mostly, he talked about getting off drugs, and said that part of the reason he left Korn was to change his environment and straighten himself out:”Towards the end, it was, like, dying,” he said of his musical and creative gift. ”When I quit it felt like my gift was taken from me.” But he found the strength to get off drugs - crediting his spirituality. ”It came back and more,” he said. ”At first about my faith with Korn, they thought I was nuts, they thought I was crazy. Then Fieldy became a Christian, and, he gets it.”
He then speaks of his daughter. “She’s the love of my life, man. God used her to save me.” And of himself, he says: “I’m a goofy dad.”
When a fan asked if he would return to Korn, he was sincere, but his response could have been considered coy: “I don’t know what the future holds, I go no plans,” he said.
He was there to promote his book: Save Me from Myself: How I Found God, Quit Korn, Kicked Drugs, and Lived to Tell My Story (Hardcover)Good for him.
